How to Make Decorations for Halloween out of Paper
Getting into Halloween spirit may take up just a few days until you set up you room or your house with scary and spooky decorations. You may be tempted to buy Halloween decorations from the store, but why spend the cash on some fancy hanging ghosts or evil looking pumpkins that you will only be using once every year? With different colored paper and some other DIY materials you can make some eerie Halloween decorations that will cost you half the price.
In this OneHowTo article we share some simple ideas on how to make decorations for Halloween out of paper.
Pumpkin decorations
Fall is the season for pumpkins. People start making pumpkin pie, drinking pumpkin spiced coffee and carving out pumpkins because there is nothing that speaks more holiday season than pumpkins.
In order to make a pumpkin decoration made out of paper you will need:
- Orange cardboard or orange paper
- Short pencil or brown cardboard
- A compass or plate
- Orange paint and brown paint
- A pencil, scissors, paintbrushes and glue
In order to make this DIY we will be sticking round orange cutouts to a stemmed center. We recommend that you use a short pencil (painted brown) for stronger stability. You may also roll a piece of brown cardboard to emulate the core.
Depending on the size you want your pumpkin to be you will draw 4”, 6” or 10” circles. You may use rounded objects or a compass to guide you. The number of circles depends on how dense you want your pumpkin to be. Once you have cut out all your circles, fold them in half.
Then use your glue to stick the outer folded area of the circle to the pencil or brown cylinder you are using as your stem. To complete the DIY you can use your scissors to help carve the shape of your pumpkin.
Witch hat decorations
There is something spooky and creepy about witches flying on their brooms and casting ancient spells. You can bring the spirit of Halloween into your home by making witch hats as table centerpieces.
You will need:
- Black cardboard
- Orange and green paint
- Orange and green ribbons
- A glass and plate
- Scissors, glue and paintbrushes
You can make a quick and easy witch hat decoration in just very simple steps. First, use a small plate to make a circle on the black cardboard. Make sure that you don’t use all your cardboard for this step. Then, use a glass to draw a small circle. Cut out both circles.
The larger circle will be the base and the smaller one will be used to make a cone shape. Cut a small wedge on the small circle and the roll it to make a cone. Use your glue to glue together the cone to the circle. Allow some time to dry.
Finally, use your colored markers and ribbons to add some decorative elements to your hat. Wrap a ribbon around the base and maybe add some spiders or pumpkins around the cone. For full instructions, take a look at how to make a Witch hat.
