Steps to follow:
To make a God’s Eye Craft we will need the following two things:
- 2 Popsicle Sticks
- Colorful Yarn or String
Additionally, you might want to gather some embellishments like beads or feathers to personalize your creation.
Hold the sticks together so that they are perpendicular to each other, forming a cross. Now tie both the Popsicle sticks with the yarn diagonally at the intersection and secure it with a knot. The yarn would form an X at the intersection of the Popsicle sticks. To make the knot more secure you can wind the yarn in an X shape more than once and then tie a knot.
Ensuring the sticks are tightly secured will help maintain the structure as you weave.
Before beginning the weaving process let's number the popsicle stick. The part of the popsicle stick facing north is numbered as 1 and then moving in clockwise direction number the others.
This numbering will assist in keeping the weaving pattern consistent and organized.
Now take the yarn and bring it to the front so that the yarn is between sticks 4 and 1. Bring the yarn above both stick 1 and stick 2. Now your yarn is between stick 2 and 3.
Bring the yarn behind stick 2 and then wind it once on stick 2. The yarn is now between stick 1 and stick 2.
This initial step establishes the pattern that you will follow throughout the weaving process.
Then bring the yarn over both stick 2 and stick 3. The yarn is now between stick 3 and stick 4. Bring the yarn below stick 3 and then between stick 2 and stick 3. Then wind it once on stick 3. The yarn is now between stick 2 and 3.
Ensure that the yarn is taut to prevent any sagging in your design.
Then again bring the yarn over both stick 3 and stick 4 such that the yarn is between stick 4 and stick 1. Now bring the yarn below stick 4 and then between stick 3 and stick 4. Then wind it once over stick 4.
By this point, a diamond shape should start to become visible in the center.
The yarn is now between stick 3 and stick 4. From there bring the yarn over both stick 4 and stick 1. Now the yarn is again in between stick 1 and stick 2.
Continue to maintain even tension on the yarn to enhance the neatness of the pattern.
Repeat the same process from step 4 to step 7 taking care that each time you wrap the yarn over the Popsicle stick, the yarn should lie next to the yarn of the previous round and not over it. Repeat till you achieve the God's Eye craft of your desired size.
The beauty of this craft is in its symmetry and precision, so take your time with each layer.
You can make the God's Eye craft with a single color yarn. But if you want colors then you can do it by repeating the step 4 to step 7 four times with one color yarn and then tie a yarn of different color to it. Then start repeating the steps with the 2nd color yarn. Similarly you can add as many colors as you want.
Experiment with different color combinations to create unique designs that reflect your personal style.
You can also add tassels, pom-pom or bows at the end of the sticks to make the God's Eye Craft look more attractive.
These additional elements can provide a playful touch and enhance the visual appeal of your craft.
