How to Make a Candle Holder at Home
If you like having candles around home and putting them all around to decorate your flat, next we're going to show you an original way to make a candle holder made out of fabric, normally candle holders you'll find on the Internet will be made with other waste material such as CD, bottles, etc. but in this case we show you how to make an elegant candle holder at home.
You'll need:
- Colored table mat
- White glue
- Balloon
- Plastic gloves
Steps to follow:
The first thing we need to do is to get hold of a woollen mat or similar. You can also buy one at a specialized shop or even supermarkets. Woollen mats are typical decorations people used to use to decorate the table so decoration items wouldn't scratch it. Additionally, these mats come in various colors and patterns, allowing you to choose one that complements your home decor.
Next, blow up a balloon until it's about 15 centimeters (6 in) in diameter. The balloon will be used to turn the mat into a very original and elegant candle holder. The shape of the balloon helps in forming a rounded structure that is both stable and visually appealing.
Pour a bit of white glue into a plastic bowl. You can buy this glue that gives rigidity to materials here. Ensure the glue is of high quality as it will define the durability of your candle holder.
Straight after, mix the glue with a bit of water and soak the mat so the vintage candle holder gets the shape we want. It's crucial to thoroughly mix the glue and water to achieve a uniform consistency that allows the mat to absorb the solution evenly.
To give shape to your original candle holder, we must put the mat on the balloon and leave it to dry for 24 hours. It's important that you put the balloon on an object that gives it a bit of height, as you can see in the image, so the fabric falls better and the candle holder looks prettier. This drying period is essential for ensuring the mat hardens properly and retains its form.
That's it! When the mat has dried, you can turn the fabric and add a candle inside. You'll see the color of the fabric will give the candle an original and beautiful look. The ambient lighting created by the candle shining through the fabric adds a cozy and inviting atmosphere to any room.
