The first thing you'll need to do in order to decorate your diya is to take the diya, and remove any impurities and dust from it by cleaning it with a paint brush or similar, and cleaning it with a damp cloth. Leave it to dry.
The next step will be to apply two coats of acrylic color of your choice, and allow it to dry. The most common colors used to paint diyas are red, yellow and turquoise blue, but you can paint it in whichever color you prefer.
Note that lighter colors are best if you want to give your diya more contrast as you can play with darker colors on top, especially if you are using sparkle glue.
Once the acrylic coats of paint have dried, draw a creative design or motif around the diya so you can then trace it with the sparkle glue.
Use sparkle glue to make your attractive design on the inside and outside of the diya, and allow it to dry.
The next step to create your DIY diya is to stick the kundan or rhine stones of your choice with glue, and make an eye-catching pattern that you like. Make sure it is symmetrical for a more attractive finish.
Then you'll only have to allow it to dry, and your attractive diya is decorated and ready to be lit. You can even place them in the center of your rangoli for Diwali.
This is a simple procedure to decorate a diya. You may use your imagination to experiment with a myriad of designs and colors, and create dazzling diyas for your festival.
