You'll need:
- Cardboard boxes
- Duct tape
- Scissors
- Garbage bags or any plastic bag
- Potting soil
- Seeds
Steps to follow:
At first check all the cardboard boxes and make sure which ones have wear and tear or are wet. Keep aside those boxes as they can’t be used as flower pot. Choose only those boxes which are structurally sound.
Fold all the flaps of the cardboard box such that they are outside. Secure them with duct tape so that they don’t sprang up suddenly. This will also strengthen the outer side of the flower pot. Then from inside or outside tape all the seams present in the bottom of the box. It will secure the bottom of the pot.
Now take the garbage bags or plastics and push it inside the cardboard box. Make sure that it sits snugly inside the cardboard box and all the corners are covered. Then fold the top of the garbage bag and fold it such that the outside of top rim of cardboard is enclosed by it.
Now all we need to do is to poke a few holes at the bottom of the cardboard box so that the excess water can drain out when we water the plant. It’s best to make holes at the distance of every 4 inch all over the bottom side of box.
Finally, fill the flower pot with potting soil and you have it ready. Take care that the top layer of soil is at least 1 inch below the top rim of the cardboard box. Take the boxes and place them in their definite place. After planting and watering, the box will become heavy and hence would not be easy to carry around.
Mix some fertilizer or compost in the soil as you normally do in gardening pots. Now it’s time to plant all the seeds or seedlings in the cardboard pot. Water it regularly as cardboard box tends to dry out sooner than regular gardening pots. Also, you will have to change the boxes after every one year.
