How to Spray Paint Clothing

If you feel like having some extravagantly coloured clothes or want to dress up for a party, colourful clothing is a must. Painting clothes with silver spray paint is very simple and does not require experience. In addition, silver spray is bright and clearly visible and is more metallic than normal spray. Be creative and experiment with different colours.

Before painting any clothes with spray, make sure that the silver spray you have is suitable for clothes, as not every spray will work. If you want to give a twist to some of your clothes, read this oneHOWTO article and learn how to spray paint clothing.

You'll need:
Steps to follow:
1

Read the instructions on the fabric spray paint before starting. Look at whether you can wash your clothes after the paint dries. Usually fabric can only withstand 30 washes.

2

Hang newspaper in a well ventilated area (against a wall is ideal) using adhesive tape. This will prevent the walls to get stained with the silver spray paint.

3

Hang your clothes on hangers.

4

Cut pieces of tape to cover areas of the garment that you don't want to paint, such as the label, logos or buttons. The tape creates a barrier so that the paint does not adhere to the areas below it.

5

Shake the spray can for at least two minutes. Put a glove on your hand, it can either be a plastic one or an old glove you don't use anymore. This way your hand will not get dirty with the paint. Firmly hold the garment in your hand. Hold it by the hanger so you don't touch the fabric.

6

Spray your clothes with silver paint. Hold the can 25cm away from the surface to prevent any patches or blotches of paint forming.

7

Paint a layer, then allow it to dry before adding another. Don't rub the silver paint as it will ruin the metallic effect, leaving traces, stains or smears on your clothes.

8

Apply three or four coats of paint to create a solid layer of silver paint. This will allow it to shine, creating a metallic effect on the fabric.

9

Leave the clothes to dry in a well ventilated area. Make sure all areas are covered with the silver paint. Remove any tape from the garment.

10

Wear your painted clothes only when you see they're totally dry. If not they could make stains on other pieces of clothing or furniture.
