How to Make Flower Pots with Cement

If you love decorating your house with plants and flowers, there are imaginative and modern ways of creating flower pots that will look gorgeous and original. You can make a flower pot with waste material in many different ways, though today we're going to show you how to make flower pots with cement, which is a growing trend that is minimalist and will look fabulous in any room you decide to place it in.

Steps to follow:
1

The first step to make this flower pot with cement is to gather all of the materials you need to make it. Take a look at the list of items:

  • 2 kg cement mixture
  • Mixing bowl
  • Container (in the shape you want your pot to be in)
  • Chopstick or wooden stick
  • 500 g water
  • Plastic cups
  • Weights
  • Tape
  • Sand paper
  • Newspaper
  • Spray paint
2

Once you have all of the ingredients you need, the first step is to mix the cement and the water in a container. In this case, we have cut a 5 liter bottle to serve as a mixing bowl, but you can use any old container you may have at home.

Remember to mix well until you get a homogeneous thick mixture.

3

Once you have your cement mix ready, get the container that will serve as a mold for your flower pot. Stick the chopstick in the middle. We do this in order to create proper water drainage for your flower.

4

Without taking the chopstick off, pour the cement 3/4 of the way up.

5

Now, get a plastic cup and introduce it in the center, making sure none of the edges of the cup touch the outer mold, as this would make the planter break once dry. The chopstick should also go through the cup.

Use weights or similar to make sure the cup is in its place. You also need to make sure you don't go over the top with the weight, as the glass should not touch the bottom on the mold container.

If your glass keeps floating up, you can secure it with some tape.

6

Leave it to dry for 48 hours. Once the cement has gone solid, you can remove the inner cup, chopstick and weights. Cut out the outer mold too.

7

Now it's time to decorate.

If you find that the top is a bit uneven, you can sand it down if you like.

Use tape to cover the parts you want to leave in the color of the cement. Play with patterns by creating lines and geometric figures.

8

Cover the surface you're working on with several layers of newspaper. Spray paint your flower pot in the color you prefer.

Leave it to dry before removing the tape.

9

Your flower pot with cement is now ready to use. You can plant beautiful succulents and cacti such as the one in the picture or your favorite flower!
